Immaculate Consumerism
Zone Contemporaine, Bern, Switzerland, 2023
A foundation of capitalism is the uncritical belief that the conception of our goods is immaculate, dehumanizing the process that went into their creation. This installation challenges our perceptive culture of the role of labor beneath the surface of our modern society, where goods are the end results of production and manufacturing by actual humans, deserving of more recognition, respect and gratification.
Clear pallets placed at eye level present a convenient opportunity to ignore what lays beneath and to accept the dissonance of what floats above, while acknowledging our individual responsibility in the status quo. Transparency here makes the unseen, seen.
